A few years back, three friends were enjoying some cold libations and reminiscing about their younger days, when Manchester and surrounding towns had a vibrant music scene. One common memory was listening to a local band called SHADE at an outdoor gig held in the back lot of the local American Legion on a summer evening. As many great events happen, someone said “why not”, and everyone agreed that it was time to revive the tradition. Scott Milne (left), Greg Cook (center) and John Filias (right) started having after-hour meetings in the back rooms of taverns and from those meetings began the Back Lot Jams music company–an organization with no other purpose than to bring good, live music to everyone who enjoys a fun night out. Come and join them as they celebrate summer times and live music at their premier event, the Manchester by-the-Sea Jazz Fest! – Scott, Greg & John

This year some of the proceeds from the 2025 event are being used to fund music at the the biennial Fireworks Display at Singing Beach on July 3rd. Peter Hoare and Essex Junction will be live beach side for your listening pleasure. Roughly 300 people helped support us in raising money for live music and fun by supporting the MusicFest - you should too!!

Originally the OG event was named the MBTS Jazz Fest to showcase area musicians and give them a chance to show off their talents with solo's embedded within all jazz style music. As the show started to gain traction there were other local bands that were interested in playing, so in 2025 the event was broadened into a music fest to broaden the appeal to local talent and their supporters. Our goal is to raise money to support Manchester by-the-Sea's 4th of July Parade fund with our funds earmarked for music thaat used to be so prevalent with marching bands.
The date is approaching fast and we’re making preparations. Don’t miss out!
